Paul Simon "So Beautiful or So What"

"Getting Ready For Christmas Day" so soon? Are you kidding me it's too early for Christmas in July, or even now as edit this (hint: Halloween is about three weeks away). This is a nice song that has excerpts from a sermon of the same name by Reverend J.M. Gates, and despite the tough sentiment where he predicts that his nephew will be "eating turkey dinner/On some mountain top in Pakistan" a third time in a row, he still delivers the song with an upbeat sense of humor and lovely harmonies strummed on his acoustic. "The Afterlife" has this beat that sounds as if it has the hiccups,or is allergic to the strumming and sax going on, and maybe he had an asthma attack and died; the lyrics are contemplating the day after he dies concerning waiting in line, filling a form to even enter Heaven, and becoming the new guy and talking to a beautiful girl first "I said 'Hey, what'cha say, it's a glorious day/By the way, how long you been dead?" and then going into a cheesy pickupline "Maybe you, maybe me, maybe baby makes three/But she just shook her head"
There is this great island in the country, and "Maybe love's an accident, or destiny is true/But you and I were born beneath a star of dazzling blue." Hand drums, strings, and island harmonies, and this short silly mantra at the end; would Jimmy Buffet write a track like this? After you read this, see if, I probably should "Rewrite" this. It has spectacular instrumentation, and whistling, while talking about working hard to make life better for yourself and in some of the lyrics take a story of a father's breakdown, which becomes a heroic feat saving his children. I believe there may be some flamenco, and a steady thumping beat thatat keeps the song in check. "Love and Hard Times" is a song dedicated to his love who had him fall the first time, as cliche as it sounds it helps to make it rhyme. The song is beautiful you should probably check it out."Love Is Eternal Shining Light" is a quick paced country rocker with a little harmonica, and a tale of man who becomes machine and woman who becomes the river; one gives life, and the other becomes a bomb in the marketplace. This "Amulet" will guide you to the center where you will be able to speak to the heavens, after you have reached the land of the darkness that surrounds the outskirts. Many of us have "Questions for the Angels," but how about this one? "If every human on the planet and all the buildings on it/Should disappear/ Would a zebra grazing in the African Savannah/Care enough to she'd one zebra tear?/Questions for the angels" is a beautiful song.Very powerful in its simplicity,it would be very easy to make this song overblown considering its content and lyrics, but the song would lose its power by adding layers upon this beautiful strumming; Guess who he mentions in this song..ok, fine..don't guess rhymes with lazy. The next song Is full of "Love And Blessings," heart and soul, great beat and strumming and excerpts from Golden Gate Gospel Train by the Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet. This album is "So Beautiful or So What." I choose the former, and with those handclaps sounds great, the bass, but do not forget it's delivery, the quick pace. THis is another great record, but if I could only choose 5 songs I would Choose: The Afterlife, Rewrite, Love Is Eternal Shining Light, Questions For The Angels, and So Beautiful or So What.
