Avril Lavigne "Goodbye Lullabye"

“Black Star” is a really beautiful introduction to this cd. Remember when she said this record was going to be more stripped down, and more bare bones. More sentimental material? Then we heard the first single and we were like "What The H*ll" Which is a very catchy song about a breakup with someone who doesn't know what he has until its gone. The song has the carny synth, and a catchy chorusand let's just say its Girlfriend is not as great as this song. When "Push" comes to shove it's best to shut up, because sometimes it's best not to analyze those feelings or a song like this. I "Wish You Were Here" with me, but since you are far away, I am singing "Damn, damn, damn/What I'd do to have you here, here, here/ wish you were here/Damn, damn, damn/what I'd do to have you near, near, near/ wish you were here.” light strings, acoustic guitar and a prominent beat, but does not overtake the power of the sentiment, that awesome last minute with vocal overlays and the spoken passage.By reading some of this stuff,“You Know that I’m a crazy b****/ I do what I want when I feel like it/I just wanna lose control/ but you don't really give a s***" starts this very catchy kiss off with a lot of attitude and a great riff which does nothing but make me "Smile."  This nice acoustic strummed, handclap/ beat, has me asking What Part is Forever by Cee-lo Green which is another great song by the way. “Open up your heart/Help me understand/Please tell me who you are/So I can show you who I am” and “Stop Standing There.” There are so many reasons why “I Love You” and she says it’s not because he’s beautiful, his style, his vibe, his smile or that he’s a star, but that he only tries to be himself, and inspires her to do the same. Why do I love this song? hmmm.. I like the lyrics which are sentimental, but not sappy and the second half of the song. There are really nice harmonies on “Everybody Hurts” and everybody cries, but know it’s not a cover, but you can sympathize, because everybody feels those unwanted emotions of fear, anxiety, and sorrow, but it’s okay to feel that way because everybody hurts some day.It is a real catchy track, and it almost feel like I'm standing on The Edge (an old lifehouse b-side) as I listen to this song; these harmonies are awesome. If that was ”Not Enough” for you, then you can forget it, but you cannot forget the chorus. Are you “4 Real” or is this dream more than just two sided; falling in love with someone who seems so perfect that it cannot be real that you are with them. “Darlin” is also a really nice song with this catchy hook, and nice acoustic strumming and has a nice breakdown, but “Pretty please, I know it's a drag/Wipe your eyes and put up your head/I wish you could be happy instead/There's nothing else I can do/Then love you the best I can “ “Remember When” listening to a song with piano actually meant something? Well, here is a song that is not just made for radio, but is real sentimental, and the emotion is real not just for airplay. "Goodbye" is  a lovely, sorrowful piano and string laden kiss off with a string and a lot of heart, and may be a longer bookend to this record; sound familiar? There is an extended version of “Alice” which sounds really nice. Then there are acoustic versions of What the H*ll, Push, and Wish You Were Here,, as well as a killer rendition of “Bad Reputation” which is a return to her punky attitude, and is a nice homage to Jett, while not tarnishing her song by putting her stamp on it.Overall I didn’t think half of the songs would be as catchyas they were. If I had to choose 9 lullabies I would choose: Black Star, What The He*ll, Push, Wish You Were Here, Smile, Everybody Hurts, 4 Real, Darlin, Goodbye, and Alice.
