“I Need A Dollar,” can anybody share one with me? Driven by piano and Blacc’s soulful voice as he tells us “all that glitters ain’t gold.” You know what stinks? When you are in a rush to be somewhere and you are not greeted by any “Green Lights” on your way to your destination. Then you start freaking out because you do not want to be late. The Horn likes to drive through those red lights though, and keeps the drums in line. “Hey Brother” is about Aloe’s brother’s girl friend who is playing his bro for a fool in this funky throwback to the late 70’s. The wordplay in the title personifies this woman as “Miss Fortune,” she’s rich b****!"but the problem with having everything you want/is you never really know what you need, hey/Now miss fortune is this bored little debutant, and its my fault/So I suggest you take my heed.” Or basically it’s about how money changes people and that being rich can cause you to oversee the little things because the focus is on the money, or how you stop living because you are so focused on the paper that you do not even realize you have no pen to write anything down. “Life So Hard” is a slow string-laden number with backing vocals and sentiments of those are low on luck, calling for cash, but have no one who even cares to help them out because they do not know what it feels like, so they don’t worry about it. “Take Me Back” and I promise I will not let you down, nor will I cheat ever again.Pleeeeease, I beg you! How many people have heard that? How many people actually believe it? And how many people are surprised to find out they had meant it? Well, watch out for this “Femme Fatale” because she means what she says, and you do not want her to get mad. “Loving You is killing Me” is probably one of my favorites off the record hasthis addictive beat and hook; the vocals are top-notch on this song as well as all the other backers sounding fine with the Rhodes/ organ coming in like a blinking light. The next track has some “Good Things” going on, and this song focuses on a bright future after a bad breakup. Don’t believe me? “I tell ya, when you left me/I thought I would never love again/Cause you had me all confused and twisted up inside/I thought it was something that I did/Oh honey, you wouldn't want to know what was going on inside my head/Now everything is fine, you're outta my mind,” “If ”I had a clue what this song was about, I would tell you. Ok, it’s about testing the mutuality in a relationship by imply asking would you do the same for me? Would she pray for him if he died? “All of these things I do for you/Give me a chance to prove to you.” I also really like this song too: “Mama Hold My Hand” it could be the piano, the sentimental power this song has, his vocals, or the strings at the end. It’s really beautiful though. “Politician (reprise)” is a nice horn-led instrumental to end the record. However, there is nos song entitled Politician, so that's a little confusing. Why is the title accurate? Check out these tracks, because th4y have "Good Things" going on: I Need a Dollar, Hey Brother, Miss Fortune, Life So Hard, Loving You Is Killing Me, Good Things, Mama Hold My Hand, and Politican (Reprise).
