Owen Pallet has an interesting voice that seems perfect for the music he makes. This racin, we'll say waving keyboard is followed by these racing string and horn flourishes toward the end guide us to our "Midnight Directives." "Keep The Dog Quiet" is about a relationship one is trapped in; the heart is trapped by the woman, his soul and devotion is trapped by her, and his body is stuck being seen with her. "Mount Alpertine" just reminds me of a song that might be sung by Frank Sinatra as he finishes it with a high note, and those strings sound jarring in that time. "Red Sun No.5" is nice, but I don't know how "Lewis Takes Action" with those dischordant strings and the fixed ones. "The Great Elsewhere" starts with electric glitches, arpeggiating key (quick), which leads into some vioin, and bassoon, the beat starts to pick up after three minutes."Followed him out to the end of the pier/'Don't come any closer,' he cried, 'I am afraid/Of the man I'll become if I lay my/Life down for a people that I don't even care for." That lyric hits home with me because of who I am, and understand some people cannot feel the same way about me, as I do them, but it just can be depressing. "Oh Heartland. Up Yours!" and take your strings with you because "I will not sing your praises" as I write this ode to you. "Lewis Takes Off His Shirt" slowly builds starting with low key beat and undulating keys which slowly builds until it's string filled ending. "Flare Gun" starts with notes that remind me of the Addams Family and immediately gets rid of it. it makes me think of a puppy playing with a butterfly he gets closer and then it stops after that screeching halt, then he's running around again, and there is a break, only to jump back in. P is for Pity and "E is for Estranged" in this sentimental piano led number adorned with a lovely flute solo, or piccolo, and"he spends an hour a day composing his own eulogy/ Sometimes he sends me letters, /but they're mostly garbled phrases and apologies." "Tryst With Mephistopheles" is some background music."Waat Do You ThinkWill Happen Now?"I probably will not listen to it again. The first time it seemed so much better, but the next few times not as much, maybe i'll try it again. Best Tracks: Keep That Dog Quiet, Lewis Takes Action, Lewis takes off his Shirt, Flare Gun, E is For The Estranged, and What Do You Think Will Happen Now?
