Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie xx "We're New Here"

Remix albums can be tricky affairs, and records that often become hollow shells of the originals; almost like a sequel, but worse. "I'm New Here" has Heron trade in the acoustic strumming with a vaudevillian like keys aand echo-refain of "every word" with this nice beat. "Home" has tinny garbage can lid beat and features the gravelly, distictive vocals of Heron. "I've Been Me" has him describe himself in adjectives, and saying if he wasn't those things he would not be himself. I will not relay those traits out of respect. "Running" keeps the same monologue but has this catchy beat and the echo-ridden vocals, keys, anda nice finish. "Certain Things" was basically the same. "The Crutch" has this percussive hand clap attack, that then gives into organ, and this spastic beat that sounds like a card in the spoke of a bike that's going, maybe. The added vocals cause it to be even more eerie because they sound as a wailing of a ghost."Ur Soul and Mine" is longer than it's predeccessor and has these vocals that sound robotic with distortion, free of charge and a techno accordion sound. "Parents" adds this quick hi-hat beat. "Piano Player," is a new selection that has this nice piano playing as Heron says he just plays piano an writes what he know. Do you ever say "New York Is Killin' Me?"  Well, if you don't live there then that explains why, well, that seems awkward. The song starts with this echo of Heron saying the title, there is this loop of keys and more title echo; there is some horn in there with this steady beat but broken female vocals; it sounds as if there is a hole in there, and there is. "Jazz (Interlude)" asks Heron whathe thinks jazz is and he gives a straight answer. "Ill Take Care of U" has some nice piano, and guiter/keyys in it. It is nice, but the ending does not have as much power as that of "On Coming From A Broken Home(Part 2)" IfIHadToChoose7SongsIWouldChoose: I'm New Here, Home, Running, The Crutch, Ur Soul and Mine, Piano Player, and  New York Is Killin' Me.
