Coldplay "Mylo Xyloto"
I have been a fan of Coldplay since I had heard the clocks play music instead of making that tick.tick.tick. sound. I could not really say I was interested in what I saw in X&Y, except for the white shadows. Their fourth album was a reinvention of sound and scope, and was better than what we were lead to believe their third record was going to be. Martin said that the first three records were part of a trilogy, and unlike the (in)famous trilogy that followed the original Star Wars series ( I didn't mind parts one-three, but I know that many fans of the original series despised them) I feel that the next trilogy of records will be even better, and so far...THEY ARE! The first two records will always be classics to me though; the third wasn't bad, but the expectations were too high and oftentimes that causes a sea underwhelming. 'Mylo Xyloto' is a short, xylophone lead forty-two second interlude that just causes us to crash into the speedy dream-pop that "Hurts Like Heaven." Again, how much can it hurt to be hit in the face with a cloud? Oxymoronic? Emphasis on moron (me), or just paradoxical; possibly like when you laugh so much ,or are so happy, you cry? Again, if that's not paradoxical it's because I'm an idiot. To reminisce, and to dream, to live in "Paradise" is what most of us work for.The sound is spacious as on an island, but instead of a tale of man who used to rule the world, it is the tale of a woman who expected it. Coincidence? I know why this was a single, and it's nice to hear that old piano again. There are cartoon characters that are timeless and easily recognizable despite certain barriers, Would you say that "Charlie Brown" is one of those characters? I mean, what about the chipmunks? It sounds like they are in this song too, and they aren't in the title, maybe it should be called charlie and the chipmunks? The ending is where the title makes sense because at first you're like..WTF? The next song has "Us Against The World," or is it just me? "M.M.I.X" sounds like it came out of a rainforest or a space scene on planet whatadagafuggloo! I could just say it is a well sequenced audio prefix to the next track, which was the first official single and proclaims "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall." While I can proclaim that i love the riff which sounds like the guitar may be a little irish, can play bagpipes, and likes wearing a kilt. The song is full of such energy, and the percussion may be part of the reason; there is a reason why it was not only a single, but the first one. This next song has a funky acoustic strum and some may say that the "Major Minus" is the lyrics. This "U.F.O." seems to be able to fly, but instead of arriving from the future it seems to be a minimalistic acoustic blast from the past. Rihanna is a "Princess of China" in this musical tale, but it is best to see how it unfolds yourself. It seems that the majority of the song went "Up In Flames" while in the studio, but what remained is what makes it stand out when compared to songs that were overproduced; the truth hurts sometimes, but "Don't Let It Break Your Heart." The next song is not only part anthem by Leonard Cohen, but is also driven by you with Brian May in the driver's seat on a road that is "Up With The Birds." Best tracks: Hurts Like Heaven, Major Minus, Princess of China, Up in Flames, and Don't Let it Break Your Heart
