City and Colour "Little Hell"

Everybody lives through their own Little Hell, whether it is a short stint or a much longer affair. Of course, it's all part of life;  it is probably never going to be all roses and rainbows, but turmoil often brings inspiration in more ways than one would expect. Survival of the fittest, and just because you're fit, does not mean you are fit to love. As the two lovers in this opener make their way through the blindness that has caused them to reject the institution of love; even in church, but only one has the switch to turn on the love. We're not sure who, but "We Found Each Other in the Dark." Home is where the heart is, but sometimes 'Natural Disasters' can cause that heart to break because the family that lived in the house became divided (litrerally or figuratively), and the destruction of said home. I don't know if I can call myself  "The Grand Optimist," but I am not "the world's poor pessimist" that Dallas Green has proclaimed in this track that gives us a little insight on his family life. I couldn't  do more than agree "there's a degree of difficulty in dealing with me," and it's true that Dallas Green, he reveals more but still leaves much mystery in this "Little Hell." Even though this "Fragile Bird" cries through the night, speaks in tongues, and is barely able to keep above those waters with that heavy heart you wouldn't notice by its energetic instrumental accompaniment that prays for the bird to have strength. For this bird has seemed to change states and strengths, now the "Northern Wind"' sending shiver's down Green's spine. After reading the lyrics I feel like crying; this may be one of his most personal, revealing, heart-wrenching songs that deal with his family. I can relate to this song in many ways, but not in ways you may think. "O Sister," no matter how much of a pain you may be, or how cruddy you may make me feel, I will always love you, and I will always try my best to be here for you, either sister. After a song that has seemed to cause my heart to dry like cement, I feel almost "Weightless" just listening to the next arrangement, until I pay more attention to the final verses of the song. We often take the strife of a 'Sorrowing Man,' or boy, on our own slowly but surely you may find your way during the chorus, and understand what I say.You probably won't find "Silver and Gold" listening to this song, or a future hit; most of the hits may glitter, but most are far from gold. The power of music can be more grand than most can imagine; "How can I instill such hope, but be left with none of my own?/What if I could sing just one song and it might save somebody's life?" are some of the most powerful truths revealed in the lyrics, even if song's healing power may not last forever, there is at least "Hope For Now." My Favorites: Grand Optimist, Fragile Bird, O Sister,Weightless, Sorrowing Man, and  Hope For Now.
