Tegan and Sara "Sainthood"

These two make a great pair of songwriters playing off of each others strengths. This "Arrow" is guided by this drumbeat that is the target and the guitar is the circle surrounding. Is this song that has to deal with hitting the target emotion of love, mutual respect and love, as they sing "If you're thinking anything," please "Don't Rush," which has beat at the forefront, and the title made me think it would be fast-er but I like- the-keys in the-back-ground. Funny, I thought "Hell" would sound much darker, but this doesn't seem so bad as it follows a quicker pace than the two previous selections but still "No I'm not ready for a big bad step in the direction" and I'd rather go somewhere else. "On Directing" gets us talking like a teen, and is about how the subject needs to keep her in focus, but it's all for naught "You're directing me/Eyes focused like a microscope/Get the cuts you need/Eyes focused like a microscope/You're directing me/You dressed up I lose my grip my focus/Make those eyes at me/I lose my grip I lose my focus." A "Red Belt" is "The Cure" for a bored by your belt rut. Or maybe the cure to this relationship, that is filled with remorse because it seemed like nothing that you did was worth it, is a trip to "Northshore" which has a nice quick beat, and nice boppin piano, short guitar riff, but there are so many rules in that place that you may just want to wait until "Night Watch" which has this slow techno blip and great percussion, nice strings at the end. "Alligator" tears are those which can be more believable than those of the feigned crocodile, but what makes them so different? How are alligator tears more reliable than crocodile's tears? "Paperback Head" has the sisters imitating the material girl with this dance beat, and sparse keys that also comments how an image that a band has can trap them in stagnancy because they have to become what their fans see, but what if that's not what they want to be. Ultimately it is the artist's choice for where they want to go, and the (true) fans will give their stuff that is different a chance, and not just pine for the band's glory days requesting a regurgitating rehash. "The Ocean" is another quick paced song followed by a "Sentimental Tune" which is another quick paced one; "Hard hearted don't worry I'm ready for a fight/Unnerve the nerve/You're nervous/Nervous that I'm right/Now/With your cause and affection/On my mind/I won't yield throw caution/Into the blaze" and "Someday" has this hippin beat that may cause them to even rap...someday. If I needed to choose 7 tracks on their way to "Sainthood": Arrow, Don't Rush, On Directing, Red Belt, Northshore, Paperback Head, and Someday.
