The Strokes "Angles"

Let me say that First Impressions Of Earth were different than my first impressions of their first two records. I scoffed at the fact that their debut was critically acclaimed because when I heard a snippet of one of their songs it sounded that Casablancas only sang in monotone and the rest of the sound was just as bland.I don't recall the actual time, but 12:51 sounds about right.Their third record seemed like it had a lot more energy and was full of great songs. Yes, I assumed so sue me, but then I decided to try the rest of the earlier catalog, and realized that their first two records weren't so bad. To this day that is my favorite record, but that is probably going to change (I'm going to give the first two a chance). After Earth, they needed some time away from each other so they can create another masterpiece, or just so they don't kill each other. They approach their sound from new Angles, in fact they start swinging all the way from "Machu Picchu" with a song about, what else? Hookers or unfortunate people trafficking victims; either way we know they're screwed. "Under Cover of Darkness" was our re-introduction to a re-invogorated Casablancas with the full band to jam with. There are "Two Kinds of Happiness": One is the nostalgia I feel listening to this song as it remind me a favorite from the nineties, and the second is the tempo change in the chorus with that short, staccato solo, or just the whole in-disco sound in general. I don't know what my favorite part of this song is: The electro-pop beats, the psychedelic drama, or just..."You're So Right" I don't know what the h*ll I'm talking about. The bass seems more prominent on this next tune, and Abracadabra! I will probably be "Taken For A Fool" like his sister. I probably already was and had no clue; I don't know if you call that magic then. Everybody plays their "Games": whether it is in love, lies (to yourself or others), an actual game, or just making a competition out of something that is usually mundane and boring...like this song. "Wait time is the worst" especially when you are waiting for something you are not even interested in, but ALAS, the chorus's vocal differentiation and instrumental accompaniment made me feel...if you're that curious just "Call Me Back." Oh, you didn't even ask for my number, nor would you ever want it. With this song they not only create a new word, channel  Billy Joel (or at least sound like they do), but they also arouse a feeling of "Gratisfaction" in me; not that I was waiting for a song like this, but I am satisfied with it. I'm reading the final verses in the last song, and wondering if this is some political commentary on the current state of the world "He can tell that we're oblivious/It's addiction of routine as well" or maybe I'm just a robot like the rest, destined to be discarded in a scrapyard from h*ll? I guess what they say is true: ignorance is bliss, and "Life Is Simple Under The Moonlight."
