With their debut album they had some great songs and blew up in the mainstream. The more diverse sophomore album saw them walking the lonely road to fame : it was unfortunate that the album did not get the recognition it deserved. Now it is time for me to critique the third record, but Am I The Enemy here? NO! I constructively analyze and criticize each album I listen to with respect and love, despite the fact I am a fan of the artist or not. "We got a million different ways to trick our heads to bring us down" and despite that fact the song is pretty uplifting and encourages to follow our dreams; do what we love, and hold onto thing that keep you young, but even if you do not, you can still find "Salvation." The next song is much heavier and its lyrics may be just as intense as its accompaniment as it references the bible; the song strikes something with me because I refuse to trade my soul , and want to make the world a better place, but i cannot do that if i trade my soul, can I? It goes with the saying you "Reap" what you sow, so I hope i'm making as big a difference as I think I am. It is funny how the whole song is good, but ironic how the bridge is the thing to
"Wake Me Up" at 1:50 in spite of its sound. It is said in the ttitle track that this world is full of greed and pain "where the politicians have free reign/To wear you down," but "they will never lay a hand on us" as long as we believe in more than just the green; be it love, hope, the goodness of human nature or anything else,we can rise above it. It sounds like the bass said "go go gadget reinterpolation!," it might be from somewhere else but I'm not sure. If I had "Dreams" like the next song I would be playing air guitar, or trying out my duck swagger special in rhythm to the percussion; in my sleep mind you,but the adrenaline may wake me up though. I cannot disparage the similarities in the sound of vocals between Winter and Gillespie, but if I ever "Dive Too Deep" in my comparisons and stray too far from the shore please bring me back. This line could not be any more relatable to practically everyone: especially those emerging artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, etc."Quitting is easy when no one's around," but it has also been said that it is better late than never, so "Where Are The Heroes?" Somewhere around here. The banjo in the next song really adds an extra layer to the song that may sound like songs we have heard before, but is really an "Angel in Disguise." Even if you look in the mirror during the chorus,"You tell yourself/That you are weak/That you are so ugly/And you cry yourself to sleep each night/You're incomplete" and seem like there is nothing you can do to make yourself feel better "Don't Lose Hope" (an uplifting track no doubt). It's surprising that the next track seems like a "Fall from Grace" when it came to good songwriting and not just another screamer. If i say that face down this doesn't hurt would you threaten to 'choke' me? The last few seconds are sped up-pent-up anger let loose. There is a radio edit of the song that I "Reap" auraul benefits from, but it sounds practically the same. This is easily their most consistent, and every song is worth a try.
