Shooter Jennings "Family Man"

I am a fan of all of his albums, but his previous album will always have a special place in my heart. I was kind of disappointed to hear he would be cutting off his Black Ribbons for his new album,
but got over it after I listened to it. By the subject matter and titles of the song you can tell that he is a Family Man.  I tend to think of Kid Rock for various reasons when I listen to “The Real Me,” but he sounds a little too mellow until the finale; you’re right, Rock has mellowed with age too. Tom Morello and Eleanor Whitmore join Shooter for “The Long Road Ahead.” I can hear a little Kenny Rogers (vocally, at least) as Jennings sings about the “Deed and the Dollar.” The sound is more upbeat due to the bass that kind of freewheels around the pedal steel. While  you may  fall under the influence of “Summer Dreams (Al’s Song),” the following is a “Southern Family Anthem” that kicks a—and takes names. A wake up call for fans of ZZ Top and sharp dressed men! The next one can be called cute by some, and odd by others, but a scenario of living without “Daddy’s Hands” can be bittersweet; it all depends on your point of view (or experiences). “The Black Dog” is even more poignant because it is more direct, or it sounds like it, as the embodiment of our own demons may be out for souls. Unless I completely missed the point, but on a lighter note there is always “The Family Tree” or “Born Again.”
