What does a five finger death punch sound like to an American Capitalist?
The best answer is to look for one and ask them, but the name is a little silly, and how many would even bother listening to their music? I thought I would wait to write this after the smoke cleared, but I still say they sound like Slipknot in the eponymous track; rhythmically and vocally, but then a lot hookier. “Under and Over It” is a musical resignation of the fame they cannot decline; it’s funny because most people find what a double-edged sword it is, and then ask themselves why they wanted it in the first place. Did you hear “…how I'm just another f***** sheep in the herd?” The song is also about glorification of the antithesis of truth; the only way you truly know is to know the person and not what you think of them. “The Pride” might be classified as really hooky rap-metal with a high energy delivery and a flute to match. “I'm not selling out/I'm buying in!!!” The next song returns the favor of when I mistook an FFDP song as one from Breaking Benjamin, but it is more of the weight this song that carries the resemblance. The next track is fun to the point where it may “Menace” in your memory; replayed over and over again, and then it’s just ok. I guess “Generation Dead” is “Back for More.” This song is undiluted resilience with a shot of ZZ Top, or not. You may not “Remember Everything,” but there will always be choices that you have made that return to bother you. It is pointless to obsess over them because at that time they seemed the winning choices; as long as they were not rooted in “Wicked Ways,” which is dedicated to those girlfriends just relaying the vicious cycle of being played;it works both ways, just don't forget. The most notable qualities are the breakdown and the vocals in “If I Fall.” Despite the “100 Ways To Hate,” there is much to like; lyrically and musically. It is a song that grows on you, and in the time of social media it is easy to relate to the third and fourth lines. I didn’t say I hated this though, did I? Best Tracks: American Capitalist, Under and Over It, The Pride, Menace, Remember Everything and 100 Ways To Hate.
