Radiohead "The King of Limbs"
I have reviewed albums of many artists, some of which whom I have not heard their full catalog, and some of you say "How dare you review_______ without listening to their full catalog?!! You are a hack! You are not worthy to review a band of this caliber" You're right, I do dare, and I am not worthy to review most of these bands' albums. I give my opinion, which is not worth much, but I give one that is honest, and give everything a chance. I do not go in with pre-concieved notions, but with an open mind; sometimes not expecting much but being surprised, and sometimes get the expected outcome. I try to look at the positives as well as the negatives, even if I am not a fan of the band, but I try. Let's just say this beat reminds me of a washing machine in sound; it's
very percussive and swishy-swashy; almost as if the beat is clumsy
and dizzy. The rest is spacey and low-key. "Morning Mr. Magpie" I see
that times have changed and the tempo. "Little By Little" I may be able
to finish this review; it's a pain, because I feel under-qualified.
This track not only has another addictive beat, but has melancholy piano
and techno-blues? There is also another part where it is very
percussive, but the overall beat is slower. Remember that negativity can
slowly drain one's lifeblood, and that
"Obligation/Complication/Routines and schedules/Drug and kill you." You
often lose part of yourself; it basically boils down to the thought that
what you do is not who you are. Let's say they get a little "Feral"
when it comes to the percussion in a quick tribal two step and some
vocalizing in the back, nothing intelligible, but help improves the
song. "There's an empty space inside my heart/Where the weeds take root"
are some of lyrics that stand out as this "Lotus Flower" blooms amidst the
falsetto? and this pretty persistent digital loop? I got nothing. "Codex"
is a lovely aside from all that digital manipulation and percussion
heavy rhythms. The song is not even much for lyrics, but for emotion and
power. Another song without percussion that goes for emotion on this
double header. He may plan to "Give Up The Ghost," but he could not give
up his habit of cutting hair; he gives in at the end. Finally, this darkness that plagued the whole King of Limbs, and his namesake flora went through a "Separator" and now "Finally I'm free of all the weight I've been carrying."
He sounds honestly optimistic, and not feigning positivity; grudges and
negative energy are useless weight that only complicate living. Favorites:
Bloom, Little By Little, Codex, Give Up the Ghost and Separator.
