Carly Rae Jepsen "Kiss"
Instead of making this one of those long awkward smooches, I’ll keep this short and sweet. We all are aware your interest of this record is brought to you by the insanely catchy first single, but “This Kiss” can easily be a Katy Perry song; which outlines its appeal, for fans of that music. Her delivery sounds so cute you almost want to ask “Call Me Maybe.” The sensation that the aforementioned song was also featured a subtle guitar riff that recalls Journey. I agree that her first single really piqued my “Curiosity,” and I know I am not the only one; but after hearing this song it left. If you’re looking for a “Good Time” then play this song, but if you want world commentary find another song. I like the next following pair of tracks, but “Hurt So Good” is more memorable for what sounds like re-interpolation of heaven is a place on earth. Yes, Carly Rae is “Beautiful,” but so is this duet with Justin Bieber; with its sunny strumming rhythm. When Jepsen sings “Tonight, I’m Getting Over You” it’s clearly by dancing the night away; maybe with some of her girlfriends? “Guitar String/Wedding Ring” could easily be an Owl City song, and mimics one of the standouts from his 2011 album. If you are a fan of her singles, and this style of music, there will be more treasures to behold on this album. If I had to pick some favorites they would include: Call Me Maybe, Good Time, Hurt So Good, Beautiful and Tonight, I’m Getting Over You.
