The Hives "Lex Hives"

The Hives were one of those bands that were supposed to save rock in the early aughties ; they were formed years before, but weren’t noticed before then. The matching suits could not have been a gimmick to distract their audience from their music; they pull it off well. I was a fan of the band back in the stone age, and even when they decided to change their getup and their sound followed suit. Their music is good, and the instrumentals in the first song is enticing, but “Come On!” They count to four, and say that 51 times, but they get you pumped. The next song apparently borrows an ELO riff, and if you want to find out which one “Go Right Ahead.” As they search through their “1000 Answers” for the correct one, I listen to the sound of a band having fun, and bouncing of the wall. ACDC comes to mind, in the mood for a Chuck Berry boogie; still “I Want More.” The next one continues the streak, but “Wait A Minute,” does anybody hear a crocodile trying to rock, or at least sing that chorus? “Patrolling Days” happens to be the longest song at 4:01, but you don’t really notice too much. I find the whining in the next song really annoying, so you can "Take Back The Toys." I didn’t really care for them anyways. There are several money-oriented clichés, but the grass is greener has a new context. You cannot argue with lyrics, less is more, but “Without The Money” there are few places you can go. “These Spectacles Reveal Nostalgics” sounds much cooler than silly old x-ray specs advertised in old comics; they never really work.  “If I Had A Cent” for every time I thought something was okay or good I might end up with a hundred dollars max, but this guy must be so offensive that moving a step is an insult. It does not take experience to know being a "Midnight Shifter" stinks, but some people prefer to be alone. The “High School Shuffle” sounds like a retro Aerosmith cut, and the final bonus track is “Insane.” Favorites: Come On!, Go Right Ahead, 1000 Answers, I Want More, These Spetacles Reveal Nostalgics, and If I Had A Cent.
