Motion City Soundtrack "My Dinosaur Life"

This “Worker Bee” deserves more than just a gold star for pressing on through “a total distortion of lifelong disorders/barreling headfirst through fresh open wounds,” but also apat on the back by someone like Rivers Cuomo for more than just its sound. “A Lifeless Ordinary (Need A Little Help)” has a hooky rhythm section and a strumming pattern that is the boyfriend to another song; the future freaks me out, but those high notes I kind of like, a lot.  Justin Pierre may have said that “Her Words Destroyed My Planet,” but he and the rest of the band sound as confident as ever in this balancing act between the heavy and the hooky; they manage to flex their muscle without losing their saccharine sound. I’m sure when you’re with your girlfriend or boyfriend you feel on cloud nine, but this song illustrates what it feels like when the object of your affection makes you feel like it’s better if you just “Disappear.” It is not “Delirium” that I suffer from, but the last three tracks (including this one have managed to be edgy without being alienating. Even though there is a feisty guitar tone and forward percussion it is the poppiest of the three; it sounds like an edgier blink 182 cut. Not everyone is apathetic toward a "History Lesson,”. If you “Stand Too Close” you might fall “Into an awful hue of dismal views and pessimistic attitude,” but without standing several feet away you can still hear a little Weezer in this one. I seem to be torn in two vary different directions! While the lyrics are not really explicit, you may be a little shocked at their ability to paint something, or possibly inspire by some type of “Pulp Fiction” into a compositional frame such as this; one of their most instrumentally infectious and emotionally ensnaring into humming along. I’m sure you wanted to yell “@#!?@!” at someone, without consequence, because their stubborn ignorance is demoralizing and annoying. This is a way to reveal your feelings towards them without actually swearing to their face. Lyrically, this song seems to be just “Skin and Bones,” but I think we’ll be alright if we are left alone tonight as we sing along. “The Weakends” here because the intro is interesting, and what follows is a robust helping of what every healthy album needs; a song to have you preparing for the band’s return. The sound is not too heavy because it is a nice sweet salad instead of a greasy hamburger. My Picks: Worker Bee, A Lifeless Ordinary (Need A Little Help), Dissappear, Delirium, Pulp Fiction, @#!?@! and the Weakends.
