Greyson Chance "Hold On Til The Night"
I’m so glad they gave Greyson a chance because there is a lot to like here. The first song is an anthem for those “Waiting Outside the Lines” encouraging those to follow their dreams and not be ashamed of being themselves: “Stuck in my same position, you deserve so much more/There's a whole world around us/just waiting to be explored.” The next song is easily one of my favorites. Chance’s vocals, with a little help from the studio, make the proclamation sound less trivial than to just “Unfriend You.” The song is very upbeat, and the arrangement is irresistible. If you have no idea what to say to a girl that means the world to you I suggest you say “Home Is in Your Eyes,” or at least play this song; it is impeccable, and you just might forget that Chance was only 13. The strings come in clear on the title track with a purpose, and I love the delivery in the last two lines before that chorus, which might make you shatter; think of the song as competent to score a teenage soap opera (or after school special) as you “Hold on Til the Night.” Discovered by playing a cover of paparazzi this song echoes Lady Gaga through composition, tone, and delivery yet not as dancy; however, the song does not have a “Heart Like Stone.” If you would prefer a song that is much more upbeat, will have your hands clapping, toes tapping, possibly kung fu fighting, and even think of Michael Franti? Possibly, but listen to this “Little London Girl” before you judge. Even if you do not know “Cheyenne” directly you may feel some heartbreak just listening to this song, and feel as if she has your whole world in the palm of her hands; what makes it worse is that the song is just asking for multiple listens, and re-opened wounds? The song is “Stranded” on the island of Bo Diddley, but there are no complaints here, and it is nice to catch a nice breeze. We bring you to the final musical moment of the album which is single material, as with most of the album, and oddly asks you to “Take A Look At Me Now.” The song seems like it is too early in his career, but I’m not complaining. My Favorites: Unfriend You, Home is in Your Eyes, Hold On til the Night, Cheyenne, Little London Girl, and Take a Look At Me Now.
