Black Keys "El Camino"
The first single and opening track documents the trials of a “Lonely Boy” in this dirt-funk garage rocker. There is a lot to love in this song, and who wouldn’t want someone with the patience of a saint and a love that keeps them waiting? In this crazy life , to be “Dead and Gone” is what some dreams are made of because all of the pressure that exists by existing makes it alluring; the backing vocals and the driving drums are what I notice, but the whole song is much better the second time. They must be howlin ‘ for you for that “Gold on the Ceiling.” If you watch the video you know what I mean because there is a reason they have fans; add this song to the list of reasons. This next track is one of those songs you overlook the first few times, but then realize that there is gold below the surface! Instead of riding their zeppelin to heaven they ride “Little Black Submarines” to unearth the song that comes to life in the second half. The perfect song to see girls shake their “Money Maker” in a gritty, low budget video. The time signature decides to “Run Right Back” to a more comfortable favorite, but the groove is forgivable. This “Sister” got it going on! Whether in the song, which is an example of gestalt, or her heart which has broken into all sorts of pieces and runs the risk of growing back twisted. It must have took a “Hell of a Season” to produce a song like this from its driving drums, end solo, consistent catcall, and its diluted raga rhythm. I cannot help but feel like I’m walkin’ on the sun, hold up! “Stop Stop!” What? Ok, the bells, handclaps and the solo are a nice touch. Better? NO? Oh well. “All this love of mine/All my precious time/You waste it cause you/Don't know what you want” are the best lines in “Nova Baby.” My Favorites: Lonely Boy, Dead and Gone, Little Black Submarines, Sister, Hell of a Season, and Stop Stop.
