Green Day "Uno"
Green Day were household names once they dropped a Dookie, and then cemented it after the release of their critically acclaimed American Idiot and, to a lesser extent, 21st Century Breakdown.
Traces of those last two albums are found on practically every song, but the weight is much lighter. It is almost like a more mature version of their breakthrough and every album before their 2004 declaration. That makes it sound like the albums in between, or before, weren’t worth mentioning, but that is not true. Is this a Warning? I am a definite Nimrod, and I can be an Insomniac. Kerplunk! It must have been that which followed after the sound of ice landing in a glass for Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. If you were not a fan of their last two albums then you may like this one! If you don’t, then there are still two more albums to follow in this trilogy! I am in love with “Nuclear Family,” well mine anyway, but the album gets better. By the second song I am considering to “Stay The Night,” and could it be that both Lifehouse and Trans-Siberian Orchestra come to mind? You don’t believe in me? So what… “Carpe Diem!” Are you under pressure to be anyone but yourself? That’s life, but sometimes you gotta “Let Yourself Go.” I personally prefer the energy of the latter over the third track’s merging of what sounds like two former hit songs; despite the title…it’s lacking. Not only does this song aim to “Kill The DJ,” but beat the trend-hopping habit out of those flippin’ hipsters in what can be a slightly ironic dance tune they may jive turkey to? Ok, I admit I “Fell For You,” maybe it was that inconspicuous surf-rock vibe that “…felt so true,” but “I'm a mess and you're a work of art.” We all have a “Loss of Control,” but for most that is usually when they are drunk out of their minds, or in the presence of a great moshing song; not too heavy, but the Ramones wrote some great ones. I guess I can be a “Troublemaker” when it comes to writing these, but that is only because you assume I aim to ridicule and not poke fun. There is a difference, and is “Angel Blue” dedicated to his teenage son? My Favorites: Stay The Night, Let Yourself Go, Kill The DJ, Fell For You, Sweet 16, and Oh Love.
