We The Kings "Sunshine State of Mind"
These guys were in a Sunshine State of Mind when they came in the studio to create this record. Well, For your first order of business it's time to declare that 'Friday is Forever' and that you are through with the girl in shades of blue who broke your heart in two. With all that aside the very breezy and sunny sound of the first track with it's touch of acoustic, strings, and R and Beat. It probably will be hard for you to 'Say You Like Me,' but i can say that this song will not be that difficult to like with it's reggae-rhythm and its soaring chorus, plus the story of the girl that no one ever knows who is the object of their affection. I must say that I love the song, but I cannot ignore the fact that we'll be a dream if you 'Say You Like ME.' Next order of business, find that girl to spend "Every Single Dollar" on because she is worth it. Ok, scratch that..hope she feels the same. I smell hit with that song, and seriously the lyrics are so cute and heart-warming; every single phone call I make to request a song would probably be for that track; maybe not. Can anyone tell me "The Secret To New York?" WHAT?!! HOW MUCH?!! Maybe I'll just sneak through the back, and lookie what I found "Nothing matters anymore, that's the secret to New York." Bummer. Maybe that is why most of them are in such a bad mood. It seems as if they lost the sound on the first three tracks after they saw 'The View From Here' before they learned a semi-important secret, and traded it for a more generic sound. I know you won't 'Sleep With Me,' but it's alright; I'm not looking for that anyway. I know it's not the same, but it reminds me of that tune from Huey Lewis and the News. This song is dedicated to that one girl that I think of every day, and it's true, unlike the girl in this song, I might never get "Over You," or this song, which should also be a single. It returns to that reggae-influenced rhythm section/strumming and cheers to the night where the epiphany arose that this girl wasn't needed. Trying to find the right person is often like kissing a lot of frogs before you get warts, or is that toads? Al that I am saying is that I don't care who you kissed first either as long as you "Kiss Me Last," and do so without kissing any other prospect at the same time. The song sounds like hardcore hippies decided to bring out the boogie boards and rock ; not heavy, but the sound has a lot of attitude, very hooky, and the song that is easiest to mosh to on this record. We all would like a companion, but I'm not sure if I would actually like "Somebody To Call My Own." The song is very upbeat and easy to bob your head too..so even though it doesn't have those reggae-influences on a higher level in this song the vibe is in the same state of mind, and the line is so true "When somebody loves, somebody falls." We know the ending to the story and maybe that is the reason why the state of mind sees no rain in 'You and Only You.' The Best tracks were Friday is Forever, Say You Like Me, Sleep With Me, Over You, Somebody To Call My Own, and Kiss Me Last.
