William Beckett "Walk The Talk"
Without William Beckett I have no idea what The Academy Is. Without the band, William Beckett is something else. Sometimes when a front man makes a solo album, or leaves the band to pursue a solo career they make an album that isn’t always the best. I can think of one within a second, but I will not mention it. Well, what a fantastic surprise this album is! The meaning is slightly lost when I say every song is a winner, and there are only four songs on it, but it’s true! It makes me excited for a full length album, but also worried because with a full album there are more songs; which might spread the quality too thin. There is no "Compromising Me." Would you believe me if I said this next song was about a girl? The beat, I mean “Girl, You Shoulda Been a Drummer.” Oh, and if you’re wondering if I want you to, I do. If you mix the Jackson Five, handclaps, faces, an unexpected rhythm shift, and the vocals sounding like… “Oh, Love!” The final song is the most minimalistic, and like true love, cuts out all the extraneous style that sometimes is overbearing; leaving the meaning to be ignored.
