Little Dragon "Ritual Union"
So I met this little dragon, and soon after I became part of a Ritual Union.
I asked him “does that mean we’re married?” He looked at me, sounded less than amused, and replied “Well, there are several taboos in this relationship: First, I am a mythical creature, so its unfathomable. Second, I would be classified as an animal and that would be bestiality, so that’s unacceptable. The third is the worst taboo; because I’m a guy that would make this a homosexual relationship, and we know that cannot be accepted either.” I was shocked, not because he spoke that eloquently, but because he spoke at all. He was four years old, and then I shouted “Why is everyone obsessed with sex?!! It isn’t needed to keep a relationship going!!!” “You’re not even my type, but if I was human that would be an absolute, unchanging taboo.” “It’s not like that. Is there a difference in years?” I ask. “I am a Dragon…I shouldn’t exist! I would say it’s gotta be like a dog’s ratio, at least...possibly.” The opening track was filled with all sort of intriguing digital sounds including autoharp (?) to help make this after-party a good time. “What are you doing?” the dragon asked. “I am just writing something” and he retorted “You call this writing? You are a sorry, sad, 'Little Man' you know that?” It was best just to ignore his banter. This song is one of several that focuses on the side effects of insatiability; caused by green eyes (and not jealousy, either). The sound is particulary interesting with the synthetic horn and rhythm that remind me of a lonely boy. The dragon guffawed as he was looking over my shoulder. “If you don’t like this, then why are you reading it?” “I’m bored. I have nothing better to do.” Deciding to “Brush the Heat” I took off my headphones and gave them to him. As if his interest had lit aflame, he began to bob his head; upon the establishment of the next track. You should have seen it. “What is this?” I told him that he must be intelligent to know what music is, and he was tempted to repurpose the living room into a rotisserie. “I would call this modern percussive disco, but I digress because that does not sound right. But the rhythm reminds me of an electronic flavored Addams family with some digi-accordion and stoccat synth” The song is another one of those songs that focuses on the have-a-lots, but does not seem to have as much of a lyrical/emotional impact as the previous one. “You should get rid of that previous sentence, or just 'Shuffle a Dream,' and forget about this one” the dragon said. He stopped dancing for a minute or two and I sung the part where it requests someone to “Please Turn,” and he laughed until he was barraged with the percussive synth and started to dance again. “So why do you write this anyway?” I looked at him and he looked at me with eyes saying “I’m serious bro.” Eyes Talk? “Why don’t you get a job?” I told him that I have one, and then asked him the same thing and he said “I’m a flippin’ dragon…like hello! Howizzat ‘upposed to work?” Something I have noticed is how Yukimi Nagano occasionally reminds me of the vocals of Sade; like in the aforementioned track. It's time for supper and I asked him what he would eat. He said “Anything, but If I told you what I normally eat you might puke.” A few hours later, I asked him if he sleeps with a “Nightlight” on, and he got real defensive asking “oh, because I have this little stuffed griffin?!” I told him it was time to go to sleep because it was late, and he was cranky. This next song sheds its “Summertearz” in honor of the work of Sade and sounds like it would not mind shedding blood as a soldier of love either (at least in terms of..) “I would say there is a lot of energy in this one, and that maybe the percussion sounds similar, but I would not compare those two together” the dragon told me. "When I Go Out" of my way to make a comparison, it is because it usually is correct to me. “You can’t say that! Wait, why are you writing everything I’m saying in this thing?” the dragon said before panicking; ok, he did not panic. I would still like to say that she sounds most like Sade in this track; which is a minute and second shy of seven minutes in a song that might be classified as another Prince experiment. You would think the instrumental timbaland-esque beat, with a sound that might take my breath away, would last “Seconds” before being consorted with Nagano’s vocals, but it was an instrumental in the end. “Ahhh, I can see that” the dragon said as he gave a little smirk. “Are you still here?” I asked. “Fine! I’m bored with you anways. I’m not even going to ask what your favorites are. I might not ever return!” My Favorites: Ritual Union, Little Man, Brush the Heat, Shuffle a Dream, Please Turn, Precious, When I Go Out, and Seconds.
