Mac Miller "Blue Slide Park"
Mac Miller opens the record with a tribute to the only place he can call home, except it’s on an “English Lane” preaching “Try to keep your brain” with best of your ability through the lameness you must maintain, yourself, and don’t abstain from fighting ignorance which spreads faster than H.I.V. Enough of this, enough of me; time to take it seriously, and go to track three. “Hey What about the title track, the most important place I know, You’re gonna write a cr**** review and not write about this one?” I say nothing, but he gets p***** at me, and what I see lyrically a much better flow “Now I got a hundred g’s so none of ya’ll can f*** with me/Yeah I said it publicly so run and tell your mother, mother*****.” That sounds like a lotta money, yeah, a lotta dough. “I switch flows, switch rhythm/Sick spittin’, unlimited ammunition” I like the sound of Summertime back. Before we start this “Party on 5th Ave,” let me clear my throat!!! I do love a good hornline, which works pretty well with the keys, and the flow is intriguing. I hope he’s not mad, but he’s better than I thought; some people can take it how they want it, but that’s a compliment. Ok, so I can see that he has gotten a little cocky in the lyrics, but I guess if you are a big fish in a little pond, or big mofu in a little “Frick Park Market” it is easy to feel more important than you are. Hey, I don’t like to spread hate. I just call things as I see it, whether you want to ignore or believe it; I know you laugh at this s*** cause I sound so stupid. He begins calling out the hipsters of hip-hop (no names, but calls out those that follow what’s trendy). I have a lot of respect for the message in this track about being yourself, and to “Smile Back” at those that just love to hate; as he calls out the fakes who want his friendship for the money they can take. His flow and the instrumentals sound like they are full of energy with a positive message, despite the fact that the chorus puts me “Under the Weather.” Wow! Not only does he mention one of my favorite movies and actors saying legends mentioning his name, and nastier than Nas he must be insane. The piano sounds like it has a horny confidant “see a girl that's lookin' horny in the 4th row/Ha, I just put it in her mouth, ortho-“ then adds dontist proposes he writes sonnets, has soul like De La. Here we go! A song that was probably written "Of The Soul." “I ain't talkin' Slim when I say these b****** Shady” has to be one of my favorite lines off this next track, and the percussion heavy production ain’t nothing to shake a stick at. You said you don’t care about “My Team,” because I don’t have one. That’s okay I would still like to meet yours if you have time, some. This next track has gotta be the most effervescent track off the disc musically, without a doubt, and stands out the most. When it comes to verses it is lively as well, but it is not the first one to have lots of energy. I would like to stay “Up All Night” and party with you, but I do have some s*** to do, and I don’t drink, I’m straightedge foo. I know, my verses be bad; I should be fed to lions at the zoo. Some of the lyrics at the end just have me moanin’ like TF?!!! But the sound in the background would you call that dub? I’m so stupid, no idea this song could be played at the club. You must buy one drink because no “Loitering” is accepted. They will take no IOUs, only cash or credit. The next song is a pebbles to “Diamonds and Gold” story of a girl classified as s***, by jealous girls I propose who should have kept their mouth shut, “But now she coming up, Louis Vuitton and Juicy on her butt.” Mac, you have some “Missed Calls,” and Wiz wants his flow back. I’m just kidding, the bouncy piano sounds like it could track another one for that great friend of yours. Ok, the "Man in the Hat" is also another example of high energy flow and instrumentals coming to make an addictive listen; it may not keep you up all night, but that’s not a lyricist’s mission. What it is, and that is which to take you sometimes on a journey, even if it is from the bench to slide over to sit on her knee. That was..bad. Oh! Before this review is over I will say “One Last Thing.” Whether he is known more for his infamy, or what he writes lyrically depends on the person that listens to his music. I say that he is pretty talented, and though he may be hated (I’m not sure by how many people) he still continues to do what he does, and he does that pretty well. The record may exceed expectations, like it did mine, and give it a listen because the singles do not always do the album justice; they were good, but there are a lot of great songs that won’t have the chance to be a single.
