Amos Lee "Mission Bell"
A lot can happen in a year, even more in three. People can change too; fame can be a horrible catalyst changing one's original personality from humble to an egotistical you know what. Also, an artist may change their style to something more lucrative to grasp that two-sided sword, and more cash. No worries here, Lee keeps a similiar style and seems to be the same . He still feels that he should take a trip to "El Camino" and wash his soul clean because his heart has become sick. Could it be fame that might have caused this prince this affliction? "Yeah my hearts grown sick/I've got a shepherds crook as a walking stick." Maybe it is not fame, but more so what comes with this type of work that has inadvertently caused his love pain. The rhythm of the next song, whole song in general, is perfect for listening to under the summer sun as the "Windows Are Rolled Down." Funny, how a song with title like this has no 'Violin' to speak of, but arrangement and all of its components stir up enough emotion without the aid of one. His heart is a "Flower," and the sound can be compared, and voice sounds, similiar to Gavin Degraw. Oh come on! You're leaving on me? You are not even going to finish reading this garbage? Please "Stay With Me." As Lee sings on his own in that smooth voice, I find that as the woman he sings to is reluctant to stay his guest vocalist, Priscilla Ahn, is reluctant to do more than hum, but if she did more than that it would probably lose its magic. I love the folky arrangement (featuring Pieta Brown), and truth be told, It takes a lot of love coming "Out of The Cold" because you can walk through h*ll without a warm heart sold; some say you need "Jesus" if you want to grow old. I do not say I agree or disagree, but I will not push on others what I believe. "But now the world has jaded me/Oh, corrupted and defeated me/You know I never thought you hated me/But I’ve never felt so alone" are probably the strongest in this song, and some of these lyrics I can agree with, but I will not let some of these come true. Society has a way of perverting someone's good intentions, even you. "Hello Again" It has not been long since I had heard a strong arrangement, but is the saxophone new resident around the Mission Bell? I cannot say that "I Learned A Lot," but I did like the experience. You can even hear the wind blowing and feel the weight of sorrow in the sound, and as the wonder wall collapses Lee prepares a "Cup of Sorrow" as the storm brews a mighty show.Maybe the rain is simply for the tears coming from those "Clear Blue Eyes" which features Lucinda Williams in this soulful duet. I guess all of the best songs off this record are "Behind Me Now." The song is a depressing way to end the record, especially with the last lines. That is why they have a bookend, 'El Camino (Reprise)' featuring country legend Willie Nelson! My favorites: Flower, Out of the Cold, Jesus, Hello Again,Cup Of Sorrow, El Camino (Reprise)
