Kid Rock "Rebel Soul"

He was always one to make a statement, and whatever the consequence may be. Those who hardly know him may call him A Devil Without A Cause, and we knew he was Cocky, but when he proclaimed himself as a Rock N Roll Jesus that easily confirmed that notion. The aforementioned was an album worth the time spent listening to it, but I just didn’t even feel like bothering with his previous CD, but I was Born Free to avoid it, wasn’t I? I may listen to it eventually.
We know that Rock has obviously mellowed out during the years, but that does not mean this Rebel Soul has nothing to say. The opener may not be close to badwitaba or rousing entry that was the title track off of “...Jesus,” but the soulful Seger-esque rocker has these “Chickens in the Pen” ready for a party. One of his hookiest tunes, just listen to those harmonies and vocals, with Aerosmith and AC/DC twang, is dedicated to the soldiers. The sound is more than substantial, but the message and direction are more reasons to listen to this song over and over again.  The “3 CATT Boogie” is not just another fun song, but is an attempt to revive interest in music of yesteryears in the same style that Duffy tried to emulate in 2008. It can be said that this is an ode to some of the most notable attributes, or residents, in “Detroit, Michigan.” No complaints yet, and it sounds like this “Rebel Soul” has decided to subtly infuse his style with a classic from the King of pop; I’m pretty sure he never saw black and white, just people. “God Save Rock N’ Roll” can either be an indirect message to those small town boys with a dollar and a dream, an autobiographical account of his life, a list of some of the cons of the rock star lifestyle, or all three. When it comes to that day, we wish each other a “Happy New Year” and make resolutions with the best of intentions, all listed, but because it is the day before: “Let’s get s*** faced, let’s get s*** faced/Let’s get into trouble, let’s get outta this place.”  Most people feel there is little to “Celebrate” when they look in “The Mirror,” and no matter what they do they cannot build that esteem. It may be nice to improve oneself, but improving the world is where it’s at; as MJ said “If you wanna make the world a better place..” The auto-tune may seem a frivolous fix, but it improves the impact of intent. “Mr. Rock N’ Roll” will recall generations of iconic hits and a shot of what made those songs iconic. For those fans missing his nu-metal style, and stuck in the early 2000s can find some solace in “Cucci Galore.”  This “Redneck Paradise” sounds like a really relaxing location, and the saxophone and piano are some great hosts. Not really a fan of “Cocaine and Gin,” but I will not hold it against you if you like it; the song or its title contents. Favorites: Chickens in the Pen,  Let's Ride, 3 CATT Boogie, Rebel Soul, Celebrate, The Mirror, Mr. Rock N Roll, and Redneck Paradise.
